Winrock Animal Clinic is proud to provide advanced clinical care for our critical patients. Therefore, we make sure to have blood products available for your pet's specific needs. You never know when a serious illness will strike, but isn't it great to know that your Veterinary Hospital is prepared to handle it!
We order our blood products from the Animal Blood Bank. We always keep fresh frozen plasma on hand and can have other products such as packed red cells delivered overnight.
our products come from:
P.O. Box 1118

The arm is clipped and cleaned for IV catheter placement. Here a 20 gauge IV catheter has been placed in the cephalic vein (front arm).
The Plasma is thawed to room temperature, hung on a fluid pump, and run through a filter line before being connected to the patient. Some patients need IV fluids to be continued while Plasma is being administered. Here you can see we discontinued the IV fluid therapy during the plasma administration.
"Paris" receives her plasma transfusion. It is important we watch patients carefully during the administration to insure they are not having an adverse reaction. Adverse reactions are unusual because the blood products we use come form the Blood Bank and Universal Donors; however, monitoring pets is still important. Here you can see "Paris" is comfortable and doing very well during her transfusion.
