Feline Panleukopenia (Feline Distemper)
Panleukopenia is a highly contagious air borne virus.
It affects the cat’s intestinal tract causing symptoms of
anorexia, vomiting, diarrhea, dehydration, and even death.
This disease is especially severe in kittens.
Feline Calicivirus
Calicivirus causes upper respiratory symptoms (“Flu Like”) in cats. Symptoms include fever, sneezing, ocular discharge, nasal discharge, and ulcers in the mouth. It is highly contagious and sometimes fatal especially to kittens.
Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis (Feline Herpesvirus)
Rhinotracheitis is a virus that causes upper respiratory symptoms (“Flu Like”) in cats. It can cause ocular and nasal discharge. It is highly contagious.
Feline Leukemia Virus
Leukemia is a severe virus. It is a common cause leading to death among cats today. It is very contagious and passed from cat to cat via saliva contact, licking, biting, sneezing, or direct contact. Symptoms of infection include fever, loss of appetite, lethargy, anemia, and swollen lymph nodes. It can lead to immunosuppression making cats susceptible to all types of infections. It can also lead to cancer.
Feline Rabies
Rabies virus is a severe and always fatal virus. It attacks the central nervous system causing many symptoms including salivation, disorientation, aggression, and eventually death. It is transmitted to humans via saliva contact to open wounds (i.e. bite wounds or scratch wounds).
